TV show Ugly Betty has been cancelled

It is the end of the road for Betty Suarez - hit TV show Ugly Betty has been cancelled.

US network ABC has announced the popular comedy series' current fourth season will be its last.

The show, based on a Colombian soap opera, made America Ferrera a star with her lead role as the style-challenged fashion magazine staffer.

“We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson said in a joint statement.

“We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

Mark Indelicato, who plays Betty's nephew, Justin Suarez, said the decision was “sad”.

The 15-year-old said: “It's been an amazing four years... It's sad to see this come so unexpectedly but I think that we all recognise the tremendous work that we have done — and am very grateful for that.”

Conan O'Brien, employees cutting $32.5m deal with NBC

Conan O'Brien lost his Tonight Show slot but takes home a $32.5million severance deal. NBC for its part gets to keep O'Brien's comic menagerie.

Embroiled in a late night show war, NBC pushed O'Brien out of what was formerly Jay Leno's 11pm slot while Leno tanked in a primetime slot. NBC put Leno back after just a few months.

The network in the deal keeps O'Brien until September in the slot after Leno but will pay severance to Conan's Tonight Show employees in what TMZ reported was likely to be a total $40million payout. The deal is near closed, TMZ notes.

The website also claims an NBC source said O'Brien has surrendered property rights, covering such inventions as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Masturbating Bear.

Ryan Seacrest's alleged stalker ordered to stand trial

A man who has allegedly been stalking American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has been ordered to stand trial.

Chidi Uzomah Jnr faces one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor count each of disobeying a court order and attempted disobeying of a court order after he was previously ordered to stay away from Seacrest.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Greg Dohi rejected the defence's motion to dismiss the case against Uzomah, who was convicted last year of assaulting a security guard who was assigned to protect Seacrest at an event.

Los Angeles Police Detective Rosibel Smith, who is assigned to the LAPD's threat management unit, said Seacrest told her that he was "very intimidated by Mr Uzomah's presence, by his size'' after being informed that the defendant had shown up to see him at the E! Entertainment building where he was working last October 30.

"He was very much in fear of him,'" Smith testified, noting that Seacrest knew Uzomah had been carrying a knife when arrested following his September 15 encounter with the defendant after a charity event at a children's hospital.

Uzomah also had a pocket knife with him when he was searched after his October 30 arrest at the E! building, the detective testified.

Uzomah is due back at the downtown Los Angeles courthouse for arraignment February 2.

Collette won out over fellow nominees Courteney Cox (Cougar Town), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Lea Michele (Glee).

Collette was also honoured amongst her own community at the G'Day USA annual dinner dance in Hollywood on Saturday Night. The Globes are under way at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

O'Donnell says Leno needs to step aside for O'Brien

Rosie O'Donnell has offered up her two cents to the Late Night Talk Show time slot war.

She said Leno's time is up and he needs to stand aside for Conan O'Brien.

"If you're privileged enough to drive the bus, you should say, 'Thank you' and drive it to the best of your ability, and when it's time for them to hire a new driver, you should say 'Thank you for allowing me to drive this as long as I did' and pass the keys to the new guy with red hair, and not try to flatten his tyres before he even gets going," the former daytime talk show host said.

NBC has moved Leno back into its late-night spot after giving O'Brien a short-lived run. O'Brien has stood up to the network, saying he won't be pushed back. O'Donnell also took to her blog to claim Leno "bullied his way back into college" to be quarterback once more.

O'Donnell brought out an old saw from the closet when she claimed that back in the 1990s Leno nixed a deal that was in the works for her to sit in for him on Friday nights.

Denzel, stars react to Simon Cowell's Idol departure

Hollywood star Denzel Washington wanted to know just who would do the insulting once Simon Cowell was no longer judge on American Idol.

Walking the red carpet for The Book Of Eli, Washington reacted to the news. "How are you going to have the show without him? Who's going to insult people?"

Meanwhile, producer-director J.J. Abrams told Fox News: "Simon has been doing the show for quite a while, not just in the States. It's an exhausting situation. I don't blame him for wanting to try something else."

Abrams was speaking at the Fox Television Critics Association All-Star party on Monday night. He said: "I think Idol will probably have to find its footing without him because he's such an anchor, but I'm sure it will end up being great and he'll go on to great success, too."

House star Olivia Wilde said: "It is both a tragedy and a joy all at once. [Idol] is really losing somebody impactful yet gaining something else. One door opens and another closes in terms of losing Simon. It's a big story but he'll be fine and the show will probably still be great."

Joel David Moore, star on Bones and Avatar, said: "I'm kind of bummed. I don't think I'm going to watch the show anymore. They lost Paula and she was so fun - and Simon's a jerk, and you want that. The bubbly Paula and jerky Simon was a good mix. People write TV and movies about that mix so that's what worked for the show. It's about the process and hearing Simon's honest opinion. I agree with him 90 percent of the time. Does that make me a jerk?”

Clothing giant suspends Charlie Sheen ads

Clothing giant Hanesbrands has dropped actor Charlie Sheen from its ads as he prepares to face charges following an alleged domestic violence incident over Christmas.

Hanesbrands spokesman Matt Hall said the seriousness of the allegations forced the decision to suspend the ads while the case plays out.

He said:"It's a pretty standard, straightforward call when somebody who's in your commercials is arrested on suspicion of something of this magnitude. And we would suspend the ads both for the company and, really, for Mr Sheen and his family as well. Given the publicity, it makes sense to not air those ads during that time."

The ads show Sheen with basketball great Michael Jordan. Sheen, star of Two and a Half Men, is expected to be charged next month over an incident with his wife Brooke Mueller.

Sheen has denied the allegation and he and Mueller requested that a restraining order separating them be lifted. A judge, however, upheld it.

ABC Reviews Policies Due to Adam Lambert

ABC is now reviewing their policies for live performers after all of the complaints that arose from Adam Lambert’s highly controversial performance at the American Music Awards. Network President Anne Sweeney reveals that ABC may have performers sign a contract saying that their live performance will mirror their rehearsals. She said “We certainly don't want to suppress artistry at any level, but we also have to be very cognizant of who our audience is.” I don’t care how you sugar coat it,that sounds like suppressing artistry to me, tinged with a bit of homophobia. This is just completely ridiculous!

Aaron Carter Owes the Government

Aaron Carter’s recent elimination from Dancing with the Stars cost him a steady pay check and the timing couldn’t come at a worst time. The government is saying that the has-been singer owes over a million dollars in back taxes. According to documents filed in Los Angeles earlier this week, the alleged former teen heartthrob owes a staggering $1,010,635.08 to the government. Maybe this was why he was crying so much after the show last week. Where is he going to get the money now? And how did he come to owe that much anyway? But then again, I doubt he was getting any money at all.

Carrie Prejean threatens to walk off 'inappropriate' Larry King Live show

Former Miss California Carrie Prejean unplugged her microphone and threatened to walk off 'inappropriate' Larry King Live show.

Prejean fumed at the veteran host after he tried to ask the dethroned pageant queen about a solo sex tape that reportedly torpedoed a lawsuit she filed against the Miss California Organisation for unfair dismissal.

Removing her microphone, she told King: "I think that you are being extremely inappropriate right now, and I'm about to leave your show."

She later replaced the microphone after King agreed not to ask her more questions about the tape or put live callers on the air with her.

Prejean - who calls Sarah Palin her hero - courted controversy for her public opposition to gay marriage and strong religious beliefs, which made her a figurehead for American conservatism.

But she was later removed from the Miss California post after topless photos of her surfaced.

The blonde beauty, 22, claimed her beliefs were behind her sacking and penned a book Still Standing about the affair.

Prejean was on to promote the book when he asked her whether revelations that she had also recorded a sex tape were behind a recent settlement with the Miss California Organisation.

Prejean had been demanding more than $1million in damages from the company for allegedly firing her because of her beliefs.

According to reports, however, she walked away with just her lawyers fees after the organisation countersued claiming Prejean had violated the terms of being Miss California by having recorded a sex tape.

LA Ink star Kat Von D insists she's a 'big softie' who loves classical music

LA Ink star Kat Von D has revealed she's a big softie at heart.

The heavily tattooed sex symbol admits people think she is tough rock chick because of the way she looks.

But she insists she likes nothing more than reading a good book or listening to classical music.

And instead of going out partying with boyfriend and Motley Crue guitarist Nikki Sixx, Kat insists they prefer to stay in and read self-help books.

She said: "I am happy that people like diversity. For women, a lot of it has to do with how you carry yourself. You can be heavily tattooed and still carry yourself in a feminine way.

"I remember junior high years were really difficult - I felt like an alien because I was different. Artistically, my brain was on another level and I looked different.

"Social circles are weird and even as adults, people judge you about how you look and I've learned just not to care. I am just a big nerd.

"People think I am this huge rocker chick, but I am really just a softie at heart. I like to read a lot; I like to play classical music."

Kat claims her relationship Nikki Sixx has helped heal those high-school wounds, as the couple spend private time together studying the art of self-help.

She added: "I learn so much from him - this is the most fruitful relationship I have ever had.

"We read a lot together and we are really into self-help books and wisdom books, and it's cool - I am constantly learning from him."

NBC backs Jay Leno despite slump in ratings

US chat-show host Jay Leno's revamped primetime show is failing to draw viewers, leaving his future up in the air, according to reports.

Leno moved to NBC's primetime slot six weeks ago, but after a strong start viewing figures for his 10pm show have fallen sharply.

The show is reportedly pulling in 25 per cent fewer audience members than its preceding shows a year ago.

But an NBC spokesman said, "We believe in the combination of a bankable star like Jay Leno hosting an exciting, topical show five nights a week and are committed to continuing to engage with our affiliates in ways to make that relationship work."

Most of NBC's affiliates are said to back a long-term strategy for the show to play out over 52 weeks.

"Some of the significant dramas right now are going to run out of steam by December and be out until February,” said DJ Wilson, general manager at KGW in Portland, Oregon.

“There is a real opportunity for Leno to pop. We really agree that this is a marathon, not a sprint."

However, one manager, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that he is giving Leno until next year to improve ratings.

He said: "I give them through February. I don't think anybody is anxious to pull any triggers. Plan B is to give the 10pm hour back to the affiliates."

Simpson-Wentz axed from Melrose

Actress Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, 25, has been dropped from Melrose Place.

Simpson-Wentz and co-star Colin Egglesfield were written out of the long-running CW network drama about the residents of a Hollywood apartment block.

Simpson-Wentz, who played Violet Foster, stated: "Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill. Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity."

Melrose executive producer Todd Slavkin told an entertainment magazine: "We felt that once the murder mystery [involving their characters] was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift and [Simpson-Wentz's] character would move on."

Slavkin added that Simpson-Wentz and Egglesfield took the news "like professionals".

Meanwhile, co-executive producer Darren Swimmer revealed Heather Locklear's character will have a new love interest for at least three episodes. He said of the star, who has returned to show that made her name: "[Locklear is] in every episode moving forward. She's a major focus."

Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Metcalfe plants a kiss on Eva Longoria as he returns to Wisteria Lane.

Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Metcalfe plants a kiss on Eva Longoria as he returns to Wisteria Lane.

Metcalfe has reprised his role as John Rowland - who romped with Gaby (Eva Longoria) in the first series of the show - in the latest episode aired in the US last night.

The former lovers meet in a chance encounter as Gaby, Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) and their children go to dinner.

John has given up gardening and now owns the swanky restaurant bought with divorce-settlement money. Gaby takes note that he is back on the singles' market by letting down her hair and flashing a few subtle looks his way.

But the pair may not be about to jump straight back in the sack.

In a sneak peek at next week's show, John is seen out on a date with Gaby's niece Ana, while Gaby is later seen with a look of shock when John plants a kiss on her and the pair are caught in the act.

“Working with Jesse again brought back some great memories,” Longoria said.

"Jesse and I went through a lot together during that first year and those kind of experiences bond you for life."

Creator Marc Cherry added: "I've heard rumours of this bad-boy behaviour of Jesse's, but I've never seen it myself. The truth is, he was a perfect gentleman when he did our show in the beginning. I see a maturity now in terms of his persona and his skill, but he's still the same delightful Jesse."

The actress starred in the original series of Melrose Place during the nineties and she said that she has yet to see an episode from the recent remake of the show.

She said: "I don't really get a chance to watch much TV at all. Maybe I'll TiVo it!"

Reality star Stephanie Pratt is going to leave The Hills

Despite the new series of the reality show just starting in the US, the cast seems to be dropping like flies.

Alongside Pratt's exit from the show, cast member Audrina Patridge has scored her own reality show and Lo Bosworth is also supposedly leaving.

Stephanie told Hollyscoop.com: "I think Audrina, Lo and I are all going to leave after these 10 episodes.

"I don't know how much more I can take of The Hills."

The 23-year-old added: "The Hills is very brutal."

New cast member Kristin Cavallari has just joined the show and is already causing drama, but Pratt insists that her leaving is not because of Cavallari.

The sister of Spencer Pratt said: "It's not because of Kristin.

"I was going to stay and see what happens after these ten episodes, but I just don't think I can stand The Hills anymore."

Stephanie, who has recently started a new job as a freelance fashion correspondent for the E! network, thinks the programme has changed to how it used to be.

She added: "We've all grown up. It's not the original girls moving to LA trying to make it. Right now everyone's fighting to be the queen or king of LA."

She added: "If she's going in the direction she's going, which is a non-Justin Bobby direction, it's great, because maybe Audrina can somehow work it out.
