Director Steven Soderbergh says he may consider retirement

Director Steven Soderbergh has said he may consider retirement after he finishes his current projects.

The 46-year-old star's credits include Erin Brockovich, Traffic and Ocean's Eleven and he said that he is 'winding down' as he feels 'it's time for a change'.

He told BBC Radio 4's The Film Programme: "I feel the need to recalibrate, just step away."

One of his upcoming projects includes a 3D musical adaptation of Cleopatra, which will star Catherine Zeta Jones.

He said: "I'll go away and come back with a different approach - or I won't."

His project Cleopatra is due for release in 2011 and he said it involves 'a great character, great story' and he hopes to use footage from the 1963 film starring Elizabeth Taylor.

He added: "Any film-maker who has got any interest in the visual side of movies is interested in the idea of a musical because it's such a visual genre."
