Randy and Evi Quaid want apology for fraud arrests

Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have turned the tables on the fraud charge that haunted them last year.

The pair are now demanding an apology in the matter of an alleged outstanding hotel bill in Santa Barbara, California, that resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the Texas couple.

Evi said on Sunday they were mistreated by police and falsely branded criminals in the media. At one point she was taken into custody in a men's prison for failure to appear before a California court. "I believe what we are is people who deserve an apology," she told Reuters.

A spokesman for San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara County said the matter - which centred on an estimated $10,000 bill for a week-long stay - was resolved and now closed.

The Santa Barbara District Attorney's Office, meanwhile, was not available for comment.
