Conan O'Brien lost his Tonight Show slot but takes home a $32.5million severance deal. NBC for its part gets to keep O'Brien's comic menagerie.
Embroiled in a late night show war, NBC pushed O'Brien out of what was formerly Jay Leno's 11pm slot while Leno tanked in a primetime slot. NBC put Leno back after just a few months.
The network in the deal keeps O'Brien until September in the slot after Leno but will pay severance to Conan's Tonight Show employees in what TMZ reported was likely to be a total $40million payout. The deal is near closed, TMZ notes.
The website also claims an NBC source said O'Brien has surrendered property rights, covering such inventions as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Masturbating Bear.
